Veritec and Cities in Touch to offer prepaid debit cards issued from kiosks

Veritec, Inc., a developer of mobile banking debit card solutions and a pioneer and developer of proprietary two-dimensional matrix technology, today announced that its subsidiary, Veritec Financial Systems, Inc. (“VTFS”), entered into agreement with Cities in Touch (“CIT”) of Hot Springs, Arkansas to integrate VTFS’ mobile banking software platform with CIT’s ATM and debit card issuing kiosk systems.

Visa Inc , the world's largest payment network, said its U.S. payment volume fell less in August than in July as more consumers used their debit cards -- a sign the industry may be stabilizing.

Visa's U.S. payment volume declined 1 percent in August compared with a year earlier. In July the drop was 2 percent.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) figures show that Australians’ credit card balances are falling. It declined by an annual 1.2%. Also the central bank revealed that consumers collectively spent $17.376 billion on their credit cards in April, which is 7.5% less than it was spent in March. According to Commsec economist Savanth Sebastian, Australians use their credit cards less as a result of worries about economy’s current condition.

According to the Caledonia Courier, new computer chips embedded in credit and debit cards are causing a bit of confusion at the checkout counter. Banks and retailers across Canada are starting to use the new cards, with account information stored on an embedded chip as well as a magnetic stripe on the back. The chips increase security, especially with credit cards that now use a four-digit personal identification (PIN) number instead of a signature to verify the purchaser’s identity.

Paymark reports that New Zealanders are continuing to purchase with EFTPOS rather than rely on credit cards. Debit card use was up 7.8 % per annum for the month of May while credit card use remained flat at just 0.4 % rise. Paymark CEO, Simon Tong, commented that it was positive to see people were still choosing to spend money they already had in the bank, a trend that emerged earlier in the year, rather than racking up credit card debt during tougher economic times.
