Virtual goods is the best way to be scammed?

 Sales of digital goods such as virtual objects and currency used in online games are taking off with consumers. Unfortunately for their vendors, they are increasingly popular with cyber criminals, too.

Merchants that sell digital goods lost 1.9% of all revenue to fraud in 2009, compared with a 1.1% fraud rate for companies that sell physical goods online, according to CyberSource Corp., which processes credit cards for online merchants.

Online ID fraudsters hit one in eight UK’s adult

The YouGov survey of over 2000 Brits found that these fraud victims have had on average £463 stolen, with a quarter claiming to still be in dispute over compensation for the money taken. In total, £2.65 billion was stolen online from UK consumers in the last 12 months. Despite the high proportion of victims, VeriSign says British Web users are conscientious when it comes to online shopping.

McAfee's latest criminology report highlights important issues

McAfee came up with a report that discovers the ways in which malicious individuals across the globe can use the recession to compromise networks and steal data.

McAfee, known as the security solutions provider, announced findings from its annual cyber security study. There the experts warned that the recession caused the fraudulent activity. And consumer fear and general anxiety inspire cyber criminals for new attacks.
