The yen strengthens against main counterparts

Early Monday the yen soared against most major currencies. The yen climbed against the euro during early Asian deals on Monday and is traded at Y112.90.  

The yen has also strengthened against the Swiss franc. The early trades have set the quote for the European currency at Y84.60. On late Friday the rate was Y85.02. The analysts say that if the franc gains further, it may likely hit the 84.3 level. 

In early Monday the yen has jumped against the pound at stopped at Y129.50.

 During early Monday deals the US dollar along with the Japanese yen dropped against majors as a rally in Asian and European stocks reduced demand for safe-haven currencies. 

The dollar, which closed last week's trading at 1.0177 against the Swiss franc declined to a 2-week low of 1.0083 in early deals on Monday. The next downside target level for the dollar-franc pair is seen at 1.0035.

 Goldman Sachs reported on Thursday that it third quarter earnings amounted over $3 billion. In the statement the company said that fixed income, commodities and currency trading buoyed its profits for the second straight quarter.

Meantime, heroic achievements of the investment company had little impression on the investors as its revenue from mergers and acquisitions operations showed a sharp fall that reflected the general slowness in takeover activity.

Forex news: the yen plunges against all majors

During early Asian trading on Thursday the Japanese yen fell to a new multi-day low against the Swiss franc. Apart from this the yen also slid against pound, euro and dollar.

The Japanese yen weakened against its Swiss counterpart during Asian trading on Thursday. At about 9:05 pm ET, the yen touched a 13-day low of 88.63 versus the franc, compared to 88.43 hit late Wednesday in New York. The next downside target for the yen is seen around the 88.9 level.

During early Tuesday deals the US dollar weakened against its main counterparts as a surge in most Asian and European stocks lessened demand for the safe-haven greenback.

The greenback tumbled to a near 5-week low of 1.4445 against the euro during early deals on Tuesday. This may be compared to Monday's New York session closing value of 1.4334. On the downside, the next likely target for the greenback is seen around the 1.472 level.

Forex news: yen surges up as Japanese account surplus drops

During Tuesday Asian deals the yen climbed to a 4-day high against other major currencies on the heels of decline in Japan's current account surplus in July which boosted demand for the safe haven currency.

According to a report from the Finance Ministry, Japan's current account surplus fell 19.4% from a year earlier in July.

Head of CRE Capital Corporation pleaded guilty to running a Ponzi scheme

On Thursday James G. Ossie, 48, of Atlanta, a head of an Alpharetta firm CRE Capital that claimed hefty profits from trading Japanese and American currencies pleaded guilty to his role in defrauding over 100 people out of more than $25 million. Ossie pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud before U.S. District Judge Bill Duffey in Atlanta. He is to be sentenced July 30.
