Proposal to include FM into mobile phones is strongly opposed by trade groups

A proposal by the radio and recording industries to require all mobile devices in the US to include Fm receivers was strongly opposed by trade groups who represent electronics makers and mobile carriers.

The proposal on FM inclusion from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), comes as the trade group attempts to come to an agreement with a group affiliated with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in a long-standing battle over whether radio stations should pay royalties to record labels and performers for playing their songs.

Internet giants Google, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter and a slew of other high-profile tech companies weighed in on new rules that are currently being written to keep the Internet open.

The CEOs of of those companies, along with some telecommunications and media firms, such as EchoStar and XO Communications, sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski on Monday supporting his efforts to create official regulation that protects Net Neutrality.

Names of Microsoft’s partners for application store uncovered

Earlier Microsoft Corp announced it had signed up partnerships with multiple software partners for marketing its upcoming cellphone software. However, the company did not wish to disclose the specific names until the CTIA wireless showcase in Las Vegas this week.
