AOL cuts its global workforce by 20%

AOL Inc plans to contract its staff by 900 job positions which is about 20% of its global workforce. With 5,000 workers AOL will cut nearly 400 jobs in India, outsource another 300 there, and eliminate 200 jobs in the United States, a source close to the company said. At its peak AOL had over 20,000 workers.

However, since the 2001 takeover of Time Warner Inc and its spin off in 2009, the AOL has been sadly declining.

NBC, Time Warner, Amazon and other bring content to Google

A number of partnership agreements were signed by Google with media and internet companies, including NBC Universal's CNBC, Time Warner's HBO and Amazon, for its proposed Google TV service.

According to reports Turner Broadcasting is working to optimize some of its websites for viewing on Google TV, including CNN and Cartoon Network. Meantime, NBC Universal will bring access to financial news television CNBC, while HBO will also provide programing.

Addressing the audience at the meeting at Silicon Valley headquarters Yahoo executives underlined the companys focus on search and content forecasting optimistic prospects.

Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz also stressed the company's bid to improve its e-mail system as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its ability to attract and retain Web users.

"The big dog of engagement is mail," Bartz said in a webcast of the meeting.. "Yahoo has its focus. It is excited about its future and it has its pride back."

YouTube has grown to have 100 million unique visits in January, says comScore. The fact makes YouTube the most widely viewed video service in the US again. The site was followed by Fox Interactive Media properties, Yahoo! sites, Microsoft sites, AOL, and Hulu. 

This could be explained by the fact that the users of YouTube generate the majority of its content eMarketer estimated that 9.1% of Internet users (18.1 million people) will create user-generated videos this year.
