Internet traffic will reach 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes by 2015

According to the forecast made by Cisco within the framework of its Visual Networking Index global Internet traffic will grow four-fold by 2015 to 966 exabytes a year, or a zettabyte (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes) while the number of devices connected to the Internet will increase to 15 billion.

Suraj Shetty, Cisco's vice president of global service provider marketing, predicts that the average resident of the United States will have 7 networked devices in 2015 while in 2010 there was one connected device for every human on the planet.

Cisco may purchase Skype for $5 billion

According to many speculations in the media Cisco has made an offer to acquire Skype before they complete their IPO process. There is still no confirmation of the rumors because of the running IPO process.

Skype insiders say the company hopes for a valuation of $5 billion or so, and it is likely that Cisco would bide in this range.

Google was also rumored to be sniffing around Skype, but antitrust concerns may have persuaded them not to make an actual offer.

The U.S. government has identified flaws in equipment from four companies, including Cisco Systems Inc that hackers can exploit to break into corporate computer networks.

The Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, US-CERT, said on its website on Wednesday that the warning applies to certain networking products from Cisco, Juniper Networks Inc, SonicWall Inc and SafeNet Inc.

According to a survey of 100 chief information officers carried out by UBS, U.S. and European IT budgets are expected to drop 2 % over the next year, less than the 5 % decline expected three months ago. It was announced that Cisco Systems would be appointing a director to ensure Linksys products comply with the terms of free software licenses in return for the Free Software Foundation (FSF) dismissing its lawsuit against the company.

Reuters reported that Google and Cisco Systems are currently the top candidate to join the Dow Jones Industrial Average in case Citigroup and General Motors, which are both currently trading below $2, are booted off.

Both Citigroup and General Motors are continuing to rise after substantial gains on Tuesday.
