Fraud protections of Firefox and Chrome are vulnerable to phishing

According to a research conducted by a security group Firefox and Chrome browsers cannot detect new phishing attacks that targeted recently customers of Bank of America and PayPal. The phishing scam manages to bypass fraud protections built in to the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome by attaching an HTML file to the spam email.

Google Chrome tops the list of the "Top Vulnerable Applications - 2010"

Google again came at the top of the rating charts. This time it was due to negative factors. Its web browser Chrome was ranked as the number one application in the "Top Vulnerable Applications - 2010" list compiled by Bit9.

The statistics is based on the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology's official vulnerability database, so the results are a little hard to argue with. Chrome came first with a big margin (76 vulnerabilities) beating Apple’s Safari which came second with 60 problems.

Mozilla’s Firefox engine outperforms Google Chrome’s V8 and Safari Nitro

Mozilla claims that its browser has the fastest SunSpider scores on the planet after its internal tests revealed that the company’s latest Firefox JavaScript engine — which includes the new JagerMonkey extension — outperforms both Google Chrome's V8 engine and Apple Safari's Nitro. The tests, apparently excluded Opera and Internet Explorer. Director of community development Asa Dotzler made the claim on Monday morning with a blog post.

While the new Firefox engine trails Chrome on Google's V8 benchmarks Mozilla has reached a milestone nonetheless.

According to a report from the sources familiar with the case Google is releasing its spec-tastic, low-cost, possibly even free Chrome OS tablet a month before Christmas. The table will likely be on sales only in the United States and those who want to purchase the device for a lower price than the iPad will have to subscribe for a Verizon airtime tariff.

The unnamed sources say that the tablet is scheduled for the launch on Friday, November 26, the day after Thanksgiving.

According to a new research four major browsers fail to remove users’ personal information even when they browse in a private mode. While privacy settings provided by the browsers should supposedly allow users to visit a website without leaving any trace on their computers, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari frequently leave tracks, according to the research, which is scheduled to be presented at next week's Usenix Security Symposium in Washington DC.

Google announced on its web blog that it will block insecure plug-ins from running on top of its Chrome Internet browser so as to prevent perpetrators from exploiting the security bugs.

Google’s security team noted that the feature which is scheduled to be included into the browser in “medium term” will prevent Chrome from running "certain out-of-date plug-ins." It will also help users find updates.

According to Net Applications survey, Google's Chrome allured more than a few additional users , diminishing the gaps between it and two other leaders, Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Thereby, Net Applications revealed Chrome's March market share to reach 6.13%, up 0.52% from its February standing of 5.61%. That appears to be impressive gain to pull off in so short a time, especially given the smallish size of Chrome's user base.
