The largest mobile operator in the world China Mobile Ltd has launched a search engine for Chinese users in association with the state-owned Xinhua News Agency, according to the statement made by the both companies this week.
The companies say that the search engine www.panguso.com will be operated by a joint venture established by China Mobile and Xinhua. It will also be available for mobile users in the country. |

China Mobile, the largest Chinese carrier, is making another push to attract more customers and retain them as the competition in the market is tightening. The company is launching a new initiative to better promote its own mobile operating system by establishing an "innovation alliance" to further its development.
China Mobile has developed its mobile operating, OMS (Open Mobile System), last year. The operating system is based on Android, but was modified to localize it for the China market. Handsets that use the operating system have been branded as Ophones. |

China Mobile is partnering with Xinhua News Agency over creating a new search engine company as reported by Xinhua. The two companies want to develop a new search engine but the details on what it would be and other terms were not disclosed by Xinhua, a state-controlled media agency. China Mobile is the country's largest mobile operator.
At the moment the search market in China is dominated by Baidu which has a 70% market share according to Analysys International. Google follows on the second place with 24.2% of the market. |

“At the ongoing Nokia Connections event in Singapore, Nokia’s just announced an addition to the Xseries in the form of the X5. The compact slideout QWERTY device is priced at 165 euro and aimed at the younger generation,” reports the Symbian Blog.
The new mobile device runs S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 as the core with enhancements in the standby screen and contacts application. The basic styling for the phone is borrowed from the X6. |

Hong Kong stocks shed 578.04 points, or 2.59 percent, to close at 21,748.60 on Wednesday after China's central bank raised bank reserve ratio requirements after the market close the previous day.
The Hong Kong market was also dragged by overnight losses on the United States markets. The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened down 1.42 percent and widened its losses to 2.24 percent by lunch break, and further to 2.59 percent by market close.
Turnover totaled 97.62 billion HK dollars (12.52 billion U.S. dollars), one of the highest in recent months. |

Vice chairman and executive director Zhang Chunjiang of China Mobile, one of three major state-owned network operators in China and the largest in the world by mobile subscribers, has been prosecuted by Chinese authorities for suspected "serious personal violations".
China Mobile will watch the situation and make further announcements when appropriate about Chunjiang , as it said in a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. |

China Mobile, the world's top mobile carrier by subscribers, reported its call traffic has rose back to pre-global downturn levels owing to a recovering economy.
After dropping during the crisis, China Mobile's international business has now returned to normal levels, according to the statement of Chairman Wang Jianzhou made at an event in the southern Chinese city Shenzhen.
A return of migrant workers to big cities, following their mass departures as work dried up during the downturn, also playing its role in driving calling traffic, he added. |

Fewer than 3 percent of new China Mobile subscribers have signed up for the operator's 3G service based on a locally developed mobile technology called TD-SCDMA, while the rest are choosing 2G services.
As soon as the Chinese government issued licenses to operators for 3Gservices, China Mobile, the largest telecommunications operator, began offering 3G services based on TD-SCDMA and by the end of May it had 746,000 subscribers for its 3G network.
