CEO at HSBC and Standard Chartered will send bonuses for charity?

As it became known HSBC’s and Standard Chartered’s CEOs intend to provide charity with their bonuses.

Michael Geoghegan chief executive of HSBC would accept his bonus but give it to several charities. Geoghegan stands to be awarded a bonus of four times his basic salary of 1.1 million pounds (or $1.68 million).

At the same time, Peter Sands, head of Standard Chartered, planned to donate his bonus to charity as well.

UK is donating more actively with the help of plastic cards

According to the UK Cards Association data, donations to charitable organizations on plastic cards reached £1.19 billion in 2008, that’s up 18% from £1.01 billion previous year. 

Concerning the amount of donations carried out trough the plastic cards total increase of 13% was reflected from 2007 to 2008. Particularly, debit cards donations grew by 16%, from 13 million in 2007 to 15.1 million in 2008, at the same time number of credit card cash contributions showed growth from 9.6 million in 2007 to 10.5 million in 2008, that is a 9% annual increase.

Revenue and Customs is denying tax privileges that go with charity status to Wiki UK Ltd., or Wikimedia UK. Thus UK tax man denies Wikipedia UK charity status. 

As Wikipedia claims to be "disseminating knowledge", Wiki UK requested the operating company should obtain charitable tax perks. The company is aiming to aid and encourage people to collect, develop and effectively disseminate knowledge and other educational, cultural and historic content in the public domain or under a license that allows everyone to freely use, distribute and modify content.

MasterCard Worldwide has published the results of the survey conducted between 1 to 29 September 2008 aimed to know how many people are going to open their hearts and to be charitable this season. Survey has covered a total of 6,019 consumers in 14 markets. The data was collected via personal, telephone and Computer Aided Telephone interviews, with the questionnaire translated to the local language wherever appropriate and necessary.
