Darling claims to ban automatic bonuses for UK bankers

 Great Britain will ban automatic bonuses for bankers in a new law expected to be enacted within weeks, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling told Labour Party members Monday. 


In a speech at the party's annual conference in Brighton, Darling, who heads the U.K. Treasury, said the legislation will require bonuses to be meted out over several years. The law will also ensure that bonuses can be clawed back if bank performance deteriorates.

British Chancellor denies his spending taxpayers' money for his own conveniences

As it became known on Monday, Alistair Darling, British Chancellor of the Exchequer, declined accusations he had charged U.K. taxpayers for expenses related to two homes, while Prime Minister Gordon Brown and other political leaders continue to fight against a national backlash over alleged abuse of parliamentary expense claims.
