Cellphones and laptops have adverse effect on people’s night sleep

According to a new study American habit to watch television, checking email, playing video games or writing SMS messages before going to bed result in bad sleeping and slack activity the next day.

"Unfortunately, cell phones and computers, which make our lives more productive and enjoyable, may be abused to the point that they contribute to getting less sleep at night leaving millions of Americans functioning poorly the next day," Russell Rosenberg, the vice chairman of the Washington DC-based National Sleep Foundation (NSF), said in a statement.

Mobile phone radiation changes brain metabolism, shows new research

Cellphones can influence our brain’s activity if stuck to our ear for more than 50 minutes. However, there are no evidences that this may cause any harm so far. Scientists at the National Institutes of Health found the change of the brain’s activity under influence of weak mobile phone’s radiation but they note that the study will likely not settle recurring concerns of a link between cellphones and brain cancer.

Alcatel mobile phone for just 99 pennies

A mobile phone for just 99 pennies is being sold by Carphone Warehouse in the UK. The handset Alcatel 0T-209 is ugly and has only basic functions. To get it customers need to buy £10 Virgin Mobile PAYG credit.

The phone will likely by bought only as a back-up or by old frugal people which they carry only when driving - in case they break down.

However, as noted by some observers no child or teenager would thank their parents if an Alcatel OT-209 arrived in the Christmas stocking.

Overhearing half of others’ cellphone dialogue reduces brain efficiency

American researchers have released the results of their study where they were looking at how overhearing a cellphone conversation impacts human brain. The research found that the concentration of people who overhear somebody’s conversation is higher when only half of the conversation is heard.

"We have less control to move away our attention from half a conversation (or halfalogue) than when listening to a dialogue," said Lauren Emberson, a co-author of the study that will be published in the journal Psychological Science.
