eBay is ambitious to dominate Korean online market with Gmarket Inc.

As eDaily reported on Monday, eBay agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Gmarket Inc, South Korean online retailer, for $413 million, at a 32.5% premium. The final contract is to be signed on Wednesday. 

Gmarket, Nasdaq-listed company, runs C2C marketplaces and has more than 10 million registered users in South Korea. It is a strong competitor of eBay's South Korean unit, Internet Auction Co.

Taibei’s Market Intelligence Center predicts e-shopping growth in Taiwan

E-commerce market in Taiwan is predicted to grow 32.3% above the previous year to NT$243 billion (US$7.29 billion) as reported by a local research and consulting agency. The study showed that lower prices and more product choices are the key reasons inducing people to go shopping online. It also revealed the groups of customers that are more inclined to make purchases via the Internet.
