Google to pay $8.5 million for Buzz privacy violation

Google received a preliminary approval of its $8.5 million settlement of a class action brought against Google Buzz. The preliminary approval was granted by federal district court Judge James Ware on October 7, and Google revealed the news with a press release on Tuesday. Google also took the unusual step of contacting all Gmail users via email.

India becomes first country to meet Yahoo! Buzz

Yahoo!’s Buzz social news site that identifies the top news stories and blog posts based on user votes and search patterns was introduced in India.

The country became the first market outside the U.S. to get Buzz. Frazier Miller, head of audience at Yahoo India, justified the choice of country by saying more than 60 percent of Internet users in the country were under 25 years old, and there is a lot of interest among users in social media tools.
