Queensland’s contactless "go card" public transport system breached

The Australian state of Queensland started a probe over a security breach influencing badly its contactless "go card" public transport system.

The breach was detected when the credit of one person incorrectly transferred to another's account.


The call centre operator and a supervisor have been drawn away while an investigation is completed.

The top executive at Heartland Payment Systems Inc. last week called on credit card vendors, payment processors and retailers to embrace an encryption standard that would protect credit and debit card numbers.

Robert Carr, Heartland's chairman and CEO, told the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that industry guidelines today don't require encryption of credit card numbers during transit between retailers, payment processors and card issuers.

However it is stressed that this processor has no relation to infamous Heartland Payment Systems though the scheme is familiar.

A class-action lawsuit against Heartland Payment Systems was done over the payment processor's potentially record-setting data breach. Benjamin Johns, a lawyer with the Haverford, Pa.-based firm of Chimicles & Tikellis found out that Heartland made its actions both before and since it disclosed last week that organized criminals raided its systems of credit and debit card numbers that potentially belonged to millions of consumers.

Heartland Payment Systems payments processor has officially stated today that last week they have found an evidence of system intrusion. As a result of data breach more than 100 million credit and debit card accounts were stolen. According to company statement the fraudsters have inserted malicious software that has recorded all the sensitive information including names, credit and debit card numbers, and expiration dates.
