The top executive at Heartland Payment Systems Inc. last week called on credit card vendors, payment processors and retailers to embrace an encryption standard that would protect credit and debit card numbers.

Robert Carr, Heartland's chairman and CEO, told the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that industry guidelines today don't require encryption of credit card numbers during transit between retailers, payment processors and card issuers.

These days it has announced that one more large payment processor has been hacked. This information has already been confirmed by such reputable sources as DataBreaches.net and DataLossDB. However it is stressed that this processor has no relation to infamous Heartland Payment Systems though the scheme is familiar.

A class-action lawsuit against Heartland Payment Systems was done over the payment processor's potentially record-setting data breach. Benjamin Johns, a lawyer with the Haverford, Pa.-based firm of Chimicles & Tikellis found out that Heartland made its actions both before and since it disclosed last week that organized criminals raided its systems of credit and debit card numbers that potentially belonged to millions of consumers.

The hacked payment processor Heartland Payment Systems has announced creation of an internal department which will deal exclusively with the development of end-to-end encryption to protect merchant and consumer data used in financial transactions. 

According to Robert O. Carr, CEO of Heartland Payment Systems PCI standard is a good and effective however fraudsters became more sophisticated in questions of data encryption.

Heartland Payment Systems payments processor has officially stated today that last week they have found an evidence of system intrusion. As a result of data breach more than 100 million credit and debit card accounts were stolen. According to company statement the fraudsters have inserted malicious software that has recorded all the sensitive information including names, credit and debit card numbers, and expiration dates.
