Bling Nation decides to temporarily shut down after its failure

Bling Nation, a US mobile payments service, announced about the “pause” of its activity to fix its business model that has failed to be attractive for merchants.

While it became very popular at the dawn of its business Bling Nation lost its way when it introduced FanConnect, a social media-heavy loyalty programme that was compulsory for Bling's bank and merchant partners.

Lamar, Colorado-based Valley National Bank has subscribed for Bling Nation's mobile payments offering to allow its consumers to pay for purchases at the point-of-sale using tap-and-pay technology.

Customers who have a checking account with Valley National Bank may sign up for a BlingTag™, a quarter-sized microchip sticker that adheres to the back of their mobile phone to enable debit transactions directly from their account. Thus, each time when the purchase is made via a BlingTag a consumer receives a text message with transaction confirmation and balance information.
