Credit cards bills payments ranked first amid consumers leaving mortgages second

According to a syndicated market research report, Cardbeat®, published by Auriemma Consulting Group (ACG), US consumers consider credit cards as a higher repayment priority than mortgages. The Group conducted the survey of 430 credit card users in October 2009.

Previously, consumers had always named their mortgage as the bill they would pay first. Currently, the situation has changed, and mortgage payments are left on a second place, while credit cards bills repayments are the first.

Some cardholders were shocked being changed of over $23 quadrillion for everyday purchases. So, in New Hampshire Josh Muszynski decided to buy a pack of cigarettes at a gas station. Having swiped his debit card he found that he was charged of $23,148,855,308,184,500.

This week on March 31 the U.S. Senate Banking Committee will be discussing the introduction of the new pro-consumer "Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009" legislation, reports Reuters. The legislation is aimed at preventing unfair and deceptive practices leading to consumers' unexpected fees and rate hikes.
