Facebook tries another out of its mad experiments about security. Now instead of typical Captcha that help indentify that a user who is logging in is not a bot Facebook asks its members to identify their friends based on their profile pictures.

Facebook activates this so-called “social authentication” when it suspects malicious activity such as logging from different parts of the world in a period of a couple hours. During this authentication process a user will have to identify a few friends through multiple-choice questions to access your account.

NAB projects to make mobile banking more secure with voice biometrics

National Australia Bank (NAB) is projecting the replacement of SMS pass codes with biometric voice verification to heighten the level of security of its mobile banking customers, according to CIO Magazine, New Zealand.
NAB presented voice biometrics for its telephone banking customers over the summer. Users calling the bank's contact centre can register their voice pattern, which NAB says is harder to steal than a password or PIN, to use as authentication.

IAMAI faces stiff opposition to new Indian online security rules

According to an association of India`s e-commerce industry, the RBI`s requirement that online credit and debit card transactions have an additional level of authentication using information invisible on the card will deter such transactions in the country. The new rules come into force on August 1. Besides, the Reserve Bank of India required that banks have a system of online alerts to the card holder for online card transactions for a value of 5,000 Indian rupees (US$102) or above.

Oberthur Technologies announced today its enhanced SIM-based two-factor authentication offer in partnership with XIRING in order to provide secure online services.

The two-factor authentication on the basis of the SIM allows mobile operators to deploy SIM Token One Time Password (OTP) technology. Under the partnership with XIRING the SIM cards will be compatible with a XIRING authentication device. A positive aspect with this solution is that it can be run with all internet appliances such as PC, Mac, Linux and Smartphones.
