During Monday trades gold prices recovered from its early drop which spurred buying from jewellers in Asia, but further gains could be limited by a rally in the U.S. dollar amid persistent euro zone debt concerns.
Investors also closely watched an escalating tension in the Korean peninsula, although dealers said there were no signs of buying related to the crisis sparked by North Korea's artillery attack on a southern South Korean island. |

During early Thursday deals in Asia the Japanese yen dropped to multi-day lows against the US and Swiss counterparts as a rise in most Asian stocks reduced demand for the safe-haven Japanese currency.
The yen declined against the Swiss franc during early Asian deals on Thursday. The yen is currently trading at a 2-day low of 82.25 against the franc with 82.7 seen as the next downside target level. At yesterday's close, the franc-yen pair was quoted at 81.97. |

Thursday, bullion prices surged up to $1,100 per ounce as a recent fall to 7-week lows spurred some bargain hunting in a holiday-thinned market.
Spot gold added 0.9% rising to $1,096.30 as of 10:22 p.m. EST, compared to New York's notional close of $1,087.00 per ounce. Tuesday, precious metal fell to a 7-week low of $1,074.10 an ounce.

Wednesday, bullion prices inched up as bargain hunters resurfaced after the price dropped to its weakest level in 7-weeks Tuesday, but a stronger US dollar was likely to terminate gains.
Spot gold crept higher by 0.85% moving up to $1,084.40 an ounce by 5:37 GMT, compared to New York's notional close Tuesday, when it fell as low as $1,074.10 marking its lowest level since early November.

Citigroup Inc. economists and analysts forecasted the United States and Asia to lead the recovery, while Europe and Japan lag next year. Longer term emerging Asian economies are expected to lead the world.
