Apple is incompetent to prove Amazon’s trademark violation in using Appstore

A US judge prompted this week that Apple Inc would face some hardships in its move to prevent Amazon.com from using Apple's App Store trademark.

The Cupertino giant launched a lawsuit against Amazon on allegations it has improperly used Apple's App Store name to solicit software developers throughout the United States.

However, at a hearing in an Oakland federal court on Wednesday, District Judge Phyllis Hamilton said she would reread some of the supporting papers in the case, according to an individual who was at the hearing.

Now content of the New York Post is no longer available to iPad users except if they download App Store app. When navigating to the media website via Safari browser on their iPads users come to the landing page that redirects them to the App Store. Before than users faced an interstitial ad promoting the app before continuing to the New York Post website.

In the Web Windows Phone 7 Marketplace users will be able to browse the full app catalog, view screenshots of the apps, and check out details and reviews.

Nokia discards its Ovi brand as the company is preparing to make smartphones based on Microsoft’s mobile operating system Windows Phone 7. This week Opera Software announced a deal with Appia Inc, which last month rebranded its name from PoacketGear, to provide access for its mobile browser users to a mobile application store.

In the pilot stage the store had over 15 million users in February, achieving more than 700,000 downloads per day, and establishing it among top 10 mobile application stores globally, says Opera.

The revenue-sharing deal between Opera and Appia lasts three years. The deal doubles Appia's 100 million subscriber-base.

Apple launched a number of enhancements to its App Store which are mainly aimed at Ipad owners. First change is that Apple turned on Genius Recommendations in the App Store app that comes built into your iPad. No OS update is required, but if you launch that app on your iPad, you should see a new Genius button in the bottom toolbar. As with the similar feature for the iPhone and iPod touch versions of the store, you can opt-in to turn on Genius.
