According to a recent webinar and poll of airline fraud investigators, fraud detection tools and payment fraud losses are top of mind. Thus, airlines report more than a billion dollars in online fraud loss. In order to reduce these losses each needs to be up-to-date with the appropriate technologies and be prepared for fraudsters to exploit new forms of payment and booking channels.

Airlines around the world spend millions of dollars annually upgrading their in-flight entertainment systems, but all that could be rendered by iPods and other mobile entertainment gadgets. UBS ports and a power socket which are increasingly common even for economy class passengers on carriers such as Singapore Airlines Ltd and Cathay Pacific Airlines Ltd could change the concept of in-flight entertainment.

The survey commissioned by Mountain View, Calif.-based CyberSource Corp. and Airline Information LLC, producer of conferences and publications about commercial aviation, showed that in 2008 airlines lost more than $1.4 billion to online fraudsters, which makes about 1.3% of their Web-generated revenues.
