GlobalDigitalPay: life after the death, just how better is it?

After its sudden disappearance from online the website of an ecurrency service GlobalDigitalPay is now live again. It loads with no problems and users can log into their accounts. Interestingly, the comeback of the payment processor was not smooth and stable, as the website worked with some problems which were ascribed by the company to another DDoS attack.

It should also be noted that the website returned to its usual operation with several delays. The officials of GlobalDigitalPay promised on April 27: “We are pleased to announce that we are planning to go live on Wed night (28th April) / Thurs morning (29th April) GMT.” On that day the company rescheduled its return: “It looks as though we are going to overrun our latest deadline. Once again, we apologise for the continued delay.

“We have a few more final tasks to complete and then all we are waiting for is our data center to finish some last minute configuration of our servers. So we are nearly there!!

“Hopefully we will go live on Thursday 29th - but we cannot give a specific time. Please bear with us for just a little longer.”

As of today it seems that at last the website functions more or less stably. Though, some observers are doubting that the upgrade made by GlobalDigitalPay is really worth attention because they say: “Actually, they are probably using the same MD5 crappy algorithm, just changed the salting and fields they include on it. I would say their latest security fixes will be hacked in about a month since their system is fundamentally flawed.”

And these doubts are reasonable at last taking into account that the loading of the website is irregular as after our first successful opening of the home page the destination of www.globaldigitalpay.com again failed to load with the report: “Unable to connect”.

Apart from the much-talked about upgrade that GlobalDigitalPay was purportedly doing to its website during the downtime the company has introduced one significant requirement. All users MUST reset their password and security PIN. The procedure of doing this is as follows:

If you forget your Security PIN or are asked to reset it by the GDP system, you are easily able to reset it and have a new one sent to you by SMS or an automated telephone call.

We can only call the telephone number(s) that you have in your profile. If you lose access to these telephones the only other option is for us to send you a temporary PIN via letter using surface mail.

This latest requirement puts an end to previous privacy privileges offered by the ecurrency service and many users seem to be very upset with it:

I don't want my f**king PIN reset, and I don't have a phone. You best not be trying to steal my funds GDP! I thought GDP was good, but this REALLY sours me. GDP thinks they're going to steal $1000+ from me just because they got hacked they can get away with it? There had better be some other options!

Meantime, others claim that the measure has been taken in the best interest of the customers:

It is my understanding they are not asking for a number of the phone in your kitchen, nor an address where you live. Privacy nowadays is a feature that comes at expense of money or intelligence, or most of the time both. Nobody is going to send a pin to disposable e-mail box... So, since you did not think about this in advance, you'll have your privacy at the expense of the money you cannot withdraw... Or perhaps you'll be able to get money at expense of your privacy...

Well, the time will show what has actually been done ‘in the best interests’ of consumers and whether it will have any success.

While, the company has kept its promise in spite of all the speculations on the Internet and has returned from downtime may observers still question if the returning will be viable.
