Western Union and MoneyGram are again legal in Azerbaijan

western union, moneygram One of the republic from the former USSR republic Azerbaijan in the end earlier has announced the ban of money transfers from the Azerbaijan banks through Western Union and MoneyGram to Nagorno-Karabakh, which has announced independence from Azerbaijan that caused a war in the beginning of the 90-s. This decision was taken last month and entered into force on July 30. However, according to the information such operations were not stopped. As a result the National Bank of Azerbaijan was banned the use of these companies on the territory of Azerbaijan.

On August 7, 2008 Jonathan Knaus, a vice president of Western Union, has visited the National Bank of Azerbaijan to discuss the situation. During the talks Azerbaijan explained the inadmissibility of this kind of financial operations which, according to the bank were supporting the separatists of the republic that is still considered as their state land.

Jonathan Knaus, on behalf of the company, has accepted all the conditions and promised to stop operation in that region. The leader of another company, MoneyGram has also met the head of the bank and had the similar discussion,

As a result both the companies has agreed with the conditions of the National Bank which in its turn has resume the service of both money transfer companies on the territory of Azerbaijan.
