It seems that very soon those who were saving extra cash while shopping online and not paying taxes will be obliged to finish their careless life. Starting from July 1 a new law on collecting a sales tax from Internet sales goes into force.
It is expected that approximately 1,000 companies will collect taxes but the names are not known yet. But it is known that they will be given an amnesty by complying with the new law and the state will not sue them for back taxes.
According to preliminary estimations the state will collect more than $37 million in 2009 and local districts will collect more than $11 million.
"I think this is fair for Washington business, fair for Washington tax payers because they get the revenue closer to their home," said Rep. J CreditCards.com in McIntire, D-46th District.
