[img_assist|nid=7970|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=86]In Great Britain remedies against online crime is being developed by Wales. The problem draws close attention and is being approached on a serious level. Businesses in Wales have an operative instrument to rely on in case they need help and guidance which may be accessed due to e-Crime Wales program.
The project was developed under the partnership of the Welsh Assembly Government with the police forces distributed across Wales and industry representatives from law enforcement, the banks and information security experts. The initiative is aimed to provide business groups with the information and tools needed to educate and protect themselves from the dangers that the e-crime landscape presents, as well as a central co-ordination point to report instances of e-crime.
This action is being conducted against the background of a rapid cyber crime increase. Phishing attacks have risen by 200% this year alone. And other e-criminal ploys appear to be following suit.
Cyber crime uses direct financial or intellectual property theft, disruption of communications or major damage to computer systems which results in losses costing Welsh businesses millions of pounds each year.
As per official data the impact of e-crime to Welsh businesses reached £160 million and the figure is predicted to grow.
Such a situation led to generation of corresponding actions on behalf of Wales. Within the Welsh Assembly Government an e-Crime Wales unit was created. It acts as a center for more effective reporting of e-crime, the sharing of intelligence and increasing knowledge of risk and prevention among Welsh businesses.
Through the e-Crime Wales program, Wales has taken the UK lead in fighting back against e-criminals that threaten to inflict major damage on businesses and the community.
