[img_assist|nid=10851|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=100]The IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index reports that during this September consumers in Britain spent £4.8 billion on internet purchases, a 14.8% increase over the same period last year.

Yet the figure is significantly lower than 73.2% increase on year-over-year basis recorded in September 2007.

Meanwhile the customers behavior shows that the UK shoppers will likely shift to online merchants in an effort to get lower prices during the Christmas season.

"Online retailers will need to ensure that they are prepared and ready to meet their customers' requirements by providing good product display and availability, with easy to follow payment and delivery information," advised Jo Evans, managing director of IMRG.

Besides, over 2/3 of Internet customers expressed their preference to online shopping during Christmas holidays as compared with last year.
