[img_assist|nid=8606|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=67]The National Computer Center (NCC) in Philippines has started piloting a new product - E-Bayad, its web-based payment system. The new system is intended for smaller government agencies and provides a payment gateway which allows the citizens to deal with government bodies through bank ATMs or by means of SMS. The NCC hopes that the new system will be used by the local government units as a processor.

The launch of the new system became possible owing to the partnership with Bancnet, local banking consortium, which enables the bank members to accept payments. The other partners of the NCC are Globe Telecom's GCASH, telecommunications company in Philippines and SmartMoney, mobile wallet services of the wireless services provider Smart Communications.

The piloting was conducted by the Philippine Council for Industry Research and Development (PCIERD), under the Department of Science and Technology. PCIERD hopes that the system will be useful for the customers who use it as a payment tool for purchasing of research materials and access to the agency's database.
