According to the recent survey conducted by the local research group the most Russians still use cash. Only 7-8% of all the payment transactions are made through cashless payment tools. The most popular cashless payment option is plastic cards. The most banks in Russia work with VISA cards. They transfer to those cards the wages, scholarships, pensions and other payments.
Very few of those banks offer Internet banking service as they think that the Internet is not a safe place to keep money.

According to St. Petersburgskie Vedomosty such distrust to the e-payment can be explained by a long period of economic instability in the country. Russians prefer hard cash rather than the digital one as it is their physiology. One more fact that makes the situation worse is the difficulties the people face while paying by cards in various retail shops.
