Alternative Payment systems In Romania people paying for local online purchases with plastic cards make up just about 15% while the rest of online shoppers give preference to bank transfer and cash on delivery (COD). Gecad ePayment e-commerce solutions integrator conducted a corresponding study.

The study also shows that the current average value of an online purchase accounts for 92 euros, compared to 80 euros in 2007.

"The market has been growing rapidly since 2006. Last year, market growth was 3.5 times higher than in 2006. This trend will continue in 2008, so we estimate 70 million euros and some 800,000 transactions by the end of the year," says Carmen Sebe, Gecad ePayment General Manager.

Marius Ghenea, General Manager of Fit Distribution IT products distributor says that in light of online stores’ providing alternative methods like COD and bank transfer the ratio of payments made online remains low in Romania.
