According to the reports of RomCard the volume of the transactions made by Romanians using their credit cards in Romanian online shops for the period of January - September has exceeded a level of 2007 and reached almost 40 million euros.

Approximately 35 million euros are in circulation with the online shops. In Q3 this year, Romanians made purchases in online shops with credit cards for the total amount of 14 million euros. It is 59% more in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

„Although there are opinions which claim that the online sales dropped because of the financial crisis which influences the international market, the Romanian online trade has not suffered so far.On the contrary, surprisingly, the third quarter did not report diminution in sales. If normally, July and August are considered poor in terms of sales, in 2008, July was the best month of the year with a volume of 5.2 million euros,” said Carmen Sebe, Manager General manager for GECAD ePayment.

During the period of July - September 2008 people mostly preferred to make purchases in the shops working in transport and tourism sphere. Telecom services and products were also demanded.

In the fourth quarter of 2008 the specialists expect a 30% increase each month and predict that by the end of the year the total volume of transactions made using the cards in Romanian online shops will reach 57-60 million euros.
