In the edge of the Safer Internet Day, celebrated February 12, Eurostat , Statistical office of the European Communities, has expressed its concern regarding the poor online banking development in EU, but in particular in Bulgaria and Romania. According to its report, only 20% of Bulgarians are using the online banking as the major way to bank. Compare to Denmark, for example, with its 55% of users who at least once experienced the online banking.

The best development of the online banking is demonstrated in Finland (84%) and Netherlands. The main reason that stops users from online banking and online trade is the fears of ID theft and threat environment. Note that the main goal for Safer Internet Day is to educate the users about the risks related to Internet use. No wonder that in Europe, the only place where the Safer Internet Day is promoted, the average percentage of internet users banked via internet reaches only 44%.
