PayPoint UK retail bill payment network PayPoint teams with i-movo, a provider of digital voucher services, and the Evening Standard publication to allow for Eros Card payments for the newspaper at PayPoint outlets. The Eros Card is a contactless, newspaper subscription card launched in 2007.

Customers pre-purchase copies of the Evening Standard newspaper online at a discounted price, and then visit an Evening Star vendor to obtain their copy of the publication. Before the introduction of the scheme, clients who wanted to purchase the newspaper could only use the Eros Card at the newspaper’s own network of vendors in Central London. From this month, however, Eros Card holders will be able to use their contactless card at any PayPoint outlet that stocks and sells the Evening Standard.

PayPoint believes that the new scheme is to attract new customers to PayPoint outlets who have used their Eros Card elsewhere. Also, the scheme is expected to allow Evening Standard to add new clients to its cardholder base in areas outside central London, the areas where Eros terminals are not yet installed.

PayPoint retailers are to be reimbursed the full cover price of the newspaper within six days via their existing financial relationship with PayPoint.
