Turkish motorists will have the advantage to pay tolls on the country's roads and bridges using a MasterCard chip and PIN contactless card. The card is at the moment being issued by Turkey's Bank Asya.
In addition to paying the tolls required to use motorways and bridges that are part of the Kahramanmaras public transportation project cardholders may make low value payments at participating merchants by tapping their AsyaCard DIT against specially designed MasterCard PayPass terminals.
Besides, the new card supports MasterCard's two-factor Chip Authentication Programme (CAP). Thus users making online transactions are provided with PIN-based verification. At accessing a Web bank account or shopping online a customer is suggested to identify his/her personality by inserting a card into a small hand-held portable reader. The reader generates a one-time-password and a user enters the website.
"It's great to see that banks in Turkey are now reaping the rewards of the effort that they all put into migrating to chip and PIN (EMV) technology," says Toni Merschen, group head, chip, MasterCard Worldwide.
