According to the recent press, PayEasy Online Payment System (“PayEasy”) continues to expand its regional presence. It recently partnered with Ecapay, a leading payment solutions provider in Asia to accept local payments from China, Thailand and Taiwan via online direct debit from the customer’s bank account. With this development, Philippine-based PayEasy merchants now have the added option of receiving payments from more people in Asia, who may not have or want to use a credit card for online transactions.

"We are excited to be working with a regional player like Ecapay. We share the same dream of developing intra-Asian E-Commerce by providing the infrastructure and encouraging the use of online payments," said Dick Chiang, Mozcom COO/CTO. "The online customer will pay the local online merchant in their home currency of Chinese Yuan (CNY), Taiwan dollar (TWD) or Thai Baht (THB), and our system will apply the necessary currency conversion in real-time."

Intra-Asian e-commerce is expected to boom in the next few years with regional initiatives such as the ASEAN Free Trade (AFTA) Area, and similar economic cooperation agreements with more developed neighbors like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China. By preparing themselves as early as now, Philippine-based online merchants will reap the benefits of increased trade and tourism that will happen soon.
