According to Retail Decisions, an online fraud detection agency, online fraud increased on Christmas Day.  Most of the time it happens because criminals believe that websites let down their guard. So fraud increased 167% on December 25 compared with Christmas Eve (the day before).

The most popular targets for online fraudsters are usually in South and southeast London - Peck ham, Woolwich and Thamesnear. But on Christmas Day fraud activity increased in Portsmouth, Reading and Blackburn.

British online shops are also a popular choice for fraudsters based abroad. The main attacks on British shops from overseas were launched from Ukraine, the US and Sweden. Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland and South Africa became also online crime targets.

According to Carl Clump, the company's chief executive, criminals were mainly interested in items they could sell quickly.

Other cases of fraud attacks were also observed in the most popular flights bought with stolen or cloned credit cards. The most desirable places for fraudsters became Los Angeles and Amsterdam.
