online paymentIn New Carolina, US residents of Beaufort County are offered to pay their town fines online instead of making payments at the town hall municipal court. Bluffton recently became the first municipality in Beaufort County to introduce the service.

Customers wishing to make their payments online are charged two additional fees. The first is a $1 fee for paying online while the other is based on the amount of the fine. These fees are transferred to the state whereas the town fine payment is entered into the town's bank account.

The new system was introduced on the purpose to save money for the town as at the expense of payments made by the residents online, the town can avoid merchant fees charged to the town for credit card payments.
