Online banking is not popular in Spain!

May 15, 2008 - 3:08pm | author: ayny | |

The "Second Study on the Internet in Spain" conducted by BBVA Foundation figured out that the number of Internet users is very low. They mainly use it to conduct transactions and other operations for administration goals. In comparison with 2005, when only 20.5 percent of users were making online banking transactions, the number of Internet banking users has increased and today is 24.5 percent. The greater part of the Internet banking users consists of 26-50 aged males of upper middle and high socioeconomic status.

The number of people who have opened their accounts at an internet-only bank makes up 12 percent and 23 percent are the customers of online shops related to travel and goods selling. 59 percent of clients visit online travel shops to buy tickets, 26 percent to book the hotel room and 22 percent to organize holidays.

94 percent of Spanish online bankers use e-banking account to check their account balances and control the latest transactions. 63 percent of them order transfers and 46 percent pay taxes and other bills. 59 percent prefer using online banking services because they are able to perform a transaction any time of a day and 23 percent say that by means of web banking they save time.

In spite of growing necessity of accessing the Internet (percentage of Internet users has increased from 37 percent in 2005 to 44 percent in 2008), the main reason of its usage stays for information search, for personal or professional reasons, and e-mail communications.
