cash As it was mentioned earlier, the study conducted by MasterCard showed that Australian customers are very unlikely to carry hard notes with them for making their purchases. The same study held in New Zealand reveals that customers here are also more reluctant to carry cash than they were five years ago and give preference to paying for an item with plastic cards.

87% of New Zealanders expressed their dislike towards carrying large amounts of cash in their wallets. While Italian customers, according to the same survey, were found to use more hard cash with 47% claiming they had over $50 with them when purchasing something.

Yet customers’ behavior associated with payment methods is not always uniform. Everything depends on the amount of purchase as well as on the amount of cash in a person's wallet, the balance in their check account, the ability to earn rewards, the type of retailer and the speed of the transaction.
