According to Apacs, UK payments association during the first quarter of 2007 phishing attacks have increased up to 200%. At this the organization reminds that by a third in 2007 online banking fraud has fallen to £22.6 million. So, according to the report in the first quarter of this year they have registered 10,235 phishing incidents targeted at UK banks and building societies against 3394 ones they had last year in the same period.

Each phishing attack involves thousands, or even millions, of e-mails and according to the report 82% of people are attentive and delete such letters, however the rest of population is still becoming the victims of scammers and phishers. Comparing to the last year results this figure is higher (75%).

The situation becomes worse as not everyone has anti-spyware technology on his or her computer that plays a great role. And one of three people is vulnerable. It became known that today the most spread phishing letter contains a message that is sent on behalf of MasterCard that offers people to sign up for the card network's SecureCode protection program and also to get a 16% discount on future purchases made with the card.
