In early 2009 customers of 300 Staples Business Depot and Bureau en Gros stores within Canada will be provided with two new payment options including MasterCard(R) PayPass(TM)-enabled readers and chip card terminals.

Chip technology upgrades credit and debit cards to a high level of payments security. The principle of the transaction procedure will undergo some alterations while the card itself will save the same features. Customers will insert their card into a special reader instead of swiping them and verify their payments with a PIN instead of putting their signatures.

Besides the chip system enables innovative features like MasterCard PayPass when a MasterCard cardholders authorize their transactions securely via radio frequency (RF) by "tapping" their cards against a PayPass enabled point-of-sale payment terminal. Purchases under Can$50 don not require signature and customers always can receive their receipts.
