Jibun Bank - the first m-bank in Japan

Yesterday the first bank in Japan specializing in offering banking services online through mobile phones was launched.

Jibun Bank, the newly started mobile bank , was created as a 50/50 joint venture between the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and major telecommunications carrier KDDI Corp. Its task is to provide fund transfer services using mobile phone numbers.

The very day of its start-up the bank began to accept applications for opening Internet accounts could also could be submitted through the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ's branches across the nation and some of KDDI's "au" brand mobile phone shops in the greater Tokyo areas and two other metropolitan areas around Osaka and Nagoya.

"We would like our customers to use our easy and various financial services at any time and any place," said Masato Nakai, President of Jibun Bank.
