[img_assist|nid=7815|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=50]Businesses in Sri Lanka will be enabled to trade internationally with the help of an electronic commerce web portal introduced this week by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The platform Trade Point Colombo, hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, is said to be the Local Gateway to the global Trade Point Network.

In December 2007 the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was given operational status as a fully operational trade point administrative centre and is entitled to operate as a member of the World Trade Point Federation (WTPF), which is an international non-governmental organization initiated by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

There are more than 90 countries trading internationally with the help of the Federation. They use commerce technology through a network of more than 120 trade information and facilitation centers, known as Trade Points.

Accessing the global Trade Point Network, certified Trade Point members may obtain business information services and find online-trading opportunities on the Electronic Trading Opportunities system.

Besides, companies are able to have their products more exposed via the Global Trade Directory System, receive trade alerts that match specific business interests into their email inboxes, and access the database of the WTPF in an unlimited manner.

People visiting the website are provided with free search facilities to get the list of trustworthy companies which correspond their procurement needs and service requirements. Moreover they may look through comprehensive company and product information grouped by country, sector or specific products.

"It also functions as an e-mail tool for direct contact with companies of interest and forms a platform for a trustworthy trading environment with Certified Trade Point Members," the chamber said.
