[img_assist|nid=7526|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=71|height=100]A modern tax collection system to improve service delivery to importers and exporters is to be launched by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). With the help of the new electronic payment system consignments and orders of importers and exporters will be easy to plan.

Now verification and approval of transactions will be much faster than previously. There were complaints from importers at Dar es Salaam on the slow rate of clearance of cargo, which they say limits their capacity to meet demands from their customers.

In order to enable TRA to plan its operations and speed up clearance importers must submit their three-month plans. The latter aroused little impetus on the part of importers which are not very willing to present their three month revenue plans.

Only 9 of the recorded 54 traders handed in their importation drafts for the first half of 2008.

The new system is to decrease the amount of paperwork to process commercial transactions, simplify procedures, put in order documents and data and automate all the processes.
