Gram SabhaIn tribal Mandla district of Bhopal, India new Gram Sabha credit cards were introduced. In Nainpur block these cards allow villagers to get credits. Thus Gram Sabha functions as a micro-finance institution.

Besides, Gram Sabha issued credit cards to poor families of Jaltare village with the population of over 350 people. At the moment the number of Gram Sabha credit cards issued amounts to 30 pieces.

The cards issued by Gram Sabha represents simple plastic cards with the basic details including name and assets.

The Gram Sabha cards have a distinct destination. The credit extension is not to be applied to marriage, purchasing vehicles and house construction. The money credited are mainly destined for earning livelihood.

Gram Sabha is funded by Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihood project arranged in nearly 3,000 villages in nine tribal districts. Mandla is one of them.
