Ghanaians acquire e-zwitch payment cards

e-zwich The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GHIPSS) reports that since the launch of e-zwich biometric smart card it was distributed to 10,000 people. Besides, according to Mr Archie Hesse, General Manager, Projects and Business Development of GHIPSS today there are 2,000 merchants accepting the card for payment for various transactions.

E-zwitch is a National Switch and Smartcard Payments System initiated by the Bank of Ghana (BOG). It is easily accessed and can be used for savings, payments and transfers and the management of various business transactions.

The system is expected to extend nationwide which will reduce cash handlings, ensure personal safety in payment system due to its biometric authentication and eliminate inflationary price rounding-up practices.

In connection with these expectations on Saturday last week mass registration exercise was launched in Accra. It is the first in a series that will also be held in other parts of Accra, and other regional capitals, as well as major towns.
