FacebookReports at AllFacebook make suggestions that the social network is probably preparing for the release of its upcoming payments system for developers who want to collect money from their applications' users.

Several users noticed an SSL version of Facebook upon signing in and that made them wonder about the reasons which incited the company to implement secure connections. That encryption is often used by sites that collect payment information from users; it’s hard to figure out why Facebook would use SSL for any other reason. However, just because Facebook is showing SSL doesn't mean they'll implement it. Perhaps it just wants to secure the transmission of user passwords.

No matter what it may be now, but in late March, Dave Morin confirmed at a Snap Summit that the system would be rolled out within 180 days. Thus some people are inclined to think that “with the F8 developer conference just one and a half weeks away, it's a safe bet that the payments system will be formally released then”.
