In his recent interview to Britain's Financial Times John Donahoe, CEO of eBay has said that EBay Inc is thinking of selling considering selling Skype, its Internet telephone division. But it is not a final decision, so EBay will see the results of Skype this year to see if it helps its online auction and PayPal systems.
EBay has bought Skype in 2005 for 3.1 billion but last year in October it wrote down 1.4 billion dollars with the conclusion that Internet call processor hasn't met their expectations.
"What we're testing this year are the synergies. If the synergies are strong, we'll keep it in our portfolio. If not, we'll reassess it," said John Donahoe.
In the same statement Donahoe refused all rumors about sale of PayPal which were discussed actively on the forums. According to John Donahoe PayPal was bringinf lots of profit to eBay and company is going to hold it on "for many years".
But administration of Skype does not agree with this the statement that their company is not profitable. They reported that this year they have generated revenues of 500 million dollars. Also Skype announced about new calling plans for international usage. So, US consurems may now pay only $2.95 monthly charge and too connect to landlines and cell lines domestically and in Canada. "Unlimited Mexico" provides with an opportunity to call to Mexica for $5.95 a month, and the last plan "Unlimited World" provides connection with 34 countries worldwide.
