Denmark was named the first best place in the world for e-commerce by an Economist Intelligence Unit Report. For the last several years the country's e-commerce has significantly evolved. Many factors are contributing to that on a daily basis. First of all, the information technology sector is at its high pike and is successfully penetrating the society in every way. Reportedly, more than 80% of Danish residents have internet connections and cell phones. And more impressively, electronic banking is the most popular way of managing finances among Danish citizens.
According to a study from the "Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations" (CRITO), Denmark's e-commerce policy is focused on embracing and utilizing all the potential of new technologies of electronic commerce. The most successful model developed in Denmark is Business-to-Business (B2B) or e-biz.
Denmark's success is not without the help of the legislation which is laying out an example of the official e-commerce agenda for the whole European Union. Denmark's E-commerce Act 227 ("ECA") was enacted on April 2002 and it represents Denmark's E-commerce Legal Framework. The clear and reasonable requirements to any e-commerce participant who wants to conduct on-line business on the Danish territory make it easy to comply with. They also set the ground for prevention of criminal activity, consumer protection and public security. Way to go, Denmark!
