Americans’ turn to feel the pressure of eBay

Indefatigable eBay is going on with its attempts to impose PayPal only payment option on its consumers. Having failed to incarnate its policy in Australia the auction doesn’t seem to have learned any lecture out of the case rather eBay is strongly determined to wield the scepter in the USA.

Starting “late October 2008” checks and money orders will no longer be accepted as payment options on eBay.com. Customers will be able to pay for the purchased items only using PayPal, Credit or debit, ProPay, or Payment upon pickup. The regulation will cover all the goods with the exception of vehicles, enterprise equipment, real estate, and "mature audiences" items.

Such strict measures are being explained by the auction as beneficial for sellers and providing a "consistent, more secure checkout experience." With the enhanced security of permitted payment methods customers will be more confident which will bring more sales according to the view of eBay.

The FAQ posted on the company site clarifies the future lot of third-party checkout and particularly the destiny of Google Checkout and Checkout by Amazon. . "Is eBay planning to eliminate third-party checkout?" the company asks itself. "Yes," it answers. "Ultimately it's eBay's goal to have buyers always pay for their purchases within the secure confines of eBay."

Further it speaks about Google and Amazon:

"Google's and Amazon's products and services compete with eBay on a number of levels, so we are not going to allow them on eBay."
