Telecom company Bhari Airtel of India has just announced a launch of new payment options like mobile money transfer (MMT), postpaid bill payment and prepaid recharge for mobile phones. For the first time in India the mobile money transfer facilities will enable customers who own VISA credit/debit cards from a number of local banks to transfer money, pay bills, buy movie tickets and book rail and air trips with a simple use of their mobile phones.

Airtel states that their innovation is completely secure and is certified by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCIDSS), the internationally accepted authority. The mobile solution was developed by mCheck, mobile security and payment solution provider.

In order to start using the service, customers who own GPRS-enabled handsets will have to download an application by sending a text message to Airtel. The company has announced that it has already registered 67,000 customers for postpaid bill payments with over a hundred thousand transactions; 17000 movie tickets were booked using the service.
