A new P2P service launched by Citi and Obopay

Obopay, a known m-payment processor has announced the launch of P2P mobile payments pilot in the USA, introduced in cooperation with Citibank. So, very soon all the US customers of Citibank will be offered the m-banking service. 

With the new service the users will be enabled to send or receive money through their cell phones using Internet or SMS messages. Also they can download a special mobile application. The company said that the only thing the customers need to send money is to know the mobile phone number of the receiver.

Activation of the service is also very simple. The users just need to connect the mobile service to their existing chequeing account in Citibank or open a new one on the website of the bank. According to the companies at the moment they will focus on Boston, Chicago, Maryland, Philadelphia and New Jersey, and lately will cover the other regions as well. 

"Citi's goal is to be everywhere our customers need us to be and interact with them however they choose - in person, online, while in transit or on their mobile phone," said Debby Hopkins, chief innovation officer of Citi.
